			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://washington.uwex.edu/files/2011/04/8-jarredpreserves.jpg"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-2853" src="http://washington.uwex.edu/files/2011/04/8-jarredpreserves-300x199.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="199" /></a>﻿The 2011 Master Food Preserver Training is a 3-day program for volunteers who will work with University of Wisconsin Extension to support programming in food safety and food preservation. Participants completing the pretest, the 3-day training, the daily homework, the final exam, and submitting an acceptable volunteer plan will be certified as Master Food Preservers and Food Safety Volunteers. Master Food Preserver volunteers are required to provide 20 hours of volunteer service annually to UW-Extension in their county, offering training to others and helping to respond to questions. The 3-day workshop will cover the following topics (classroom instruction and hands-on exercises): general food safety, the science of food preservation, canning high-acid and low-acid foods, freezing foods, food dehydration, making pickles, and canning salsa, pie filling, and jellied fruit products. A volunteer agreement, signed by the participant and the sponsoring UWEX Family Living agent/educator, must accompany each application. The applicant must submit a detailed volunteer plan as part of the application.</p>
<p>Forms can be downloaded here: <a href="http://www.foodsafety.wisc.edu" target="_blank">www.foodsafety.wisc.edu</a> or are available through your county University of Wisconsin Extension office. Applications for the program will be accepted beginning March 1, 2011. Payment must accompany an application. Preference will be given to Wisconsin residents. Registration for an accepted applicant is transferrable but not refundable. Apply early, space is limited!!</p>
