Entrepreneurship and Business Development clipart of man jumping in air happily

Entrepreneurship is a crucial ingredient in a robust community and a sustainable economy. Timmons and Spinelli define entrepreneurship as “a way of thinking, reasoning and acting that is opportunity based, holistic in approach and leadership balanced.” According to the U.S. Department of State, “small businesses provide approximately 75 percent of the net new jobs added to the American economy each year and represent over 99 percent of all U.S. employers.”

Whether you're in the early stages of developing your business concept, need funding or want to monitor the health of your existing business through research and analysis, creating a business plan is your first step on the path to success. UW-Extension provides entrepreneurship resources to Washington County residents and existing small business, including business plan development.

Program Example:

UW-Extension partners with the UW-Milwaukee Small Business Development Center and Economic Development Washington County in providing two entrepreneurship activities. First Steps is a three hour workshop that reviews a four step process for potential entrepreneurs to assess their readiness, consider the environment for a new business and learn about critical business resources. The Entrepreneurship Training Program (ETP) is a 12-week course for participants to develop a business plan for their new or existing business.
