COMMUNITY
DEVELOPMENT
Currently UW-Extension is focusing programming on non-profit
organizational assessment and strategic thinking, strengthening
downtowns, and public participation in the planning process. Educational
efforts strive to increase participants' knowledge and improve
their decision-making abilities.
Program example:
The Town of Erin requested assistance in resurrecting the review of a proposed
land use plan with a strong emphasis on citizen participation. UW-Extension
helped a working group develop a proposal for a randomly selected, representative
Committee to take the lead. UW-Extension has assisted the Committee in
writing newsletters, holding public information meetings, creating input surveys,
and initiating a Web presence as a means of involving citizens in the planning
process.
