The UW-Extension Dairy Team will be hosting “Better Heifers, Better Cows” Dairy Heifer Meeting.

Better Heifers, Better Cows will provide answers to building and implementing effective management strategies in raising replacement heifers.

Who should attend? Dairy farmers, custom heifer raisers, veterinarians, nutritionists and anyone with a concern with raising dairy replacement.

Establishing a foundation for a successful first-lactation is a key component of a dairy farm’s financial success. This foundation starts on day one with the birth of the calf and continues through until freshening. Emphasizing calf and heifer management will help the first-lactation heifer become a better cow.

Subjects discussed at the seminar include:
*Using PCR Tests to Diagnose Mastitis in First Calf Heifers
*Neonatal Calf Nutrition Implications for Long-Term Performance
*Calving Healthy Heifers—How to Maximize Udder Health
*Nutrition and Management for Transitioning the First Calf Heifer
*Finding the Balance—Management of Calf Health Versus Cost of Production
